One thing that will be a huge help is making sure that you have a detail-oriented planner (whether that be your LEAD planner or a personal planner) that manages your time correctly. Read over your assignments before creating your planner so that you can gauge how long each assignment will take. This will allow you to accurately set up your planner when considering time management.
Katie (11th) had this to say about the usefulness of their planner: “My LEAD planner definitely contributes to at least 80% of my success…it really helps my disorganized brain make sense of all the tasks I need to complete each week.” Study Hall can make your days ten times easier. You can get help with almost any assignment (excluding quizzes and exams, of course), you can learn ways to stay ahead on assignments, and you can create many inside jokes with Mrs. Carr and your fellow classmates. During an interview with Mrs. Carr (Student Success Coordinator), she talked about the benefits of attending Study Hall, “The primary purpose of the Student Success Team is to help our students be successful in all areas of life. Study Hall is one of the ways we really get to know our students on a personal level. We can help them see that they’re more than just an assignment, that we really care about them and all that’s going on in their life.” Jeanine (8th), who is a member of our Middle School Publications Club, talked about how helpful Study Hall is when having conversations with her classmates; the majority of them expressed how useful Study Hall can be when needing help with assignments. Study Hall is unique for every person–no two experiences will be the same. It is truly a personable, special place where students can get help and guidance shaped specifically for their needs. Participating in school events is a great way to keep yourself motivated throughout the school year. If you are more engaged with the students, mentors and staff, and the things happening within the school, the more drive you will have when it comes to classes and assignments. The events could be longer trips like the Middle School Disneyland trip and the High School Washington DC trip, or they could be smaller like the online movie nights or monthly raffles. When you are stressed about school it is much easier to mentally check out and, therefore, fall behind on schoolwork. That being said, there are many ways that you can reduce stress and stay on top of school. Weekly planners will help you plan out your days in an organized, timely manner. Study Hall is a lifesaver and you can get help on almost every assignment if needed. Staying engaged with the school as a whole will encourage you to stay motivated, so going to school events and getting to know your mentors and classmates will be a big help along the way. So if you’re feeling overwhelmed or unmotivated make sure to try out a few of these things and see if they help.
