By: Coleman N. Nevada is a vast state with a lot of different places and attributes that are special to the state. With so many places, this article aims to narrow down the places our LANV students, staff, and mentors think are the best in Nevada, whether that be Northern, Southern, or somewhere in between. Though we cannot go everywhere in Nevada, we have a wide range of people that live in and near all kinds of places, such as Red Rock or Lake Tahoe. ![]() Though the majority of Nevada is a desert, there are some truly beautiful, unique places within and it’s more diverse in its geography than most would assume when they hear the word “desert.” For instance, we have quite a few lakes, even if we share the most famous ones, such as Lake Tahoe and Lake Mead, with other states. There are also big lakes such as Pyramid Lake and many more that aren’t quite as popular due to their location. While Nevada’s lakes are marvelous, the state is home to so much more, such as its beautiful mountainous landscapes that start and end abruptly with a valley next to it like the one Las Vegas resides in. Out of a group of people that were surveyed, Lake Tahoe was by far mentioned the most frequently. It’s also great because the area around it is greener and if people don’t like the desert, it’s a great change of scenery. Lake Tahoe rides the border between Nevada and California, with multiple cities all around it in either state. It’s especially loved, in Nevada because of its amazing beaches that are either sandy or rocky depending on which you visit. It also has stunning blue water that is basically as pure as distilled water. ![]() Mountains are a huge part of Nevada’s scenery, with at least one being visible from nearly anywhere in Nevada. The Las Vegas Valley is especially notable in this case because it’s surrounded by them, with some jutting out in the middle of the more residential areas because they were either too big to remove, or were integrated into a park or other landscape. A popular mountain attraction in Southern Nevada would be Red Rock, which is fascinatingly beautiful with an almost maroon coloring to the rocks. The mountains aren’t all just to look at, there are also many hikes to take so you can experience the scenery rather than looking at it from afar which makes it an extraordinary place to visit if you find the time to do so. Nevada can be seen as boring or bland because of all the brown there is, but once we start to look around and take some time to appreciate it, it’s home to some of the most uniquely beautiful places you’ll find. So, now think for a moment, what would you say is the most unique aspect of Nevada? Or even what part is the most interesting?
