An evening filled with joy, laughter, and even pie-throwing!
At the Southern Nevada Game Night, everyone got the chance to participate in various games, such as Jenga, Clue, Bubble Talk, Codenames, Sushi-Go, and What Do You Meme (Spongebob Edition)? Many of the games were a success as students described having a splendid time playing. Kaya got the chance to play Codenames and she states, “It was SUPER fun.” Logan thinks that the games help to encourage a welcoming environment to the event, as he says, “I think everyone had a lot of fun and even some people who were more introverted were having fun, talking and laughing with other students.” Although it was a night of games, which promote competition, players report that there wasn’t a definite winner, but rather that each participant had a positive and enjoyable experience.
At the event, there was the grand finale, which topped off the entire night, as several mentors and ambassadors got pied in the face! Mr. Newman (Middle School and Algebra 1 Math Mentor), Mr. Martinez (Middle School STEM Mentor), and Logan (9th grade student ambassador) all got pied in the face. Logan especially thought of it to be the highlight of his night as he expresses, “I was pied in the face and it was glorious. I could see my life flash before my eyes, then I was covered in whipped cream. I had waited for a year to get pied.” And Mr. Martinez had a similar experience as he seemed to have liked it. He says “I can still smell whipped cream in my nose.” Shaley, throwing a pie at STEM Mentor, Mr.Martinez. Overall, the Game Night was quite the success! The event was simplistic, yet intriguing, and engaging. Shows that when you create a warm community, even the smaller things you do together can be rewarding. LANV’s goal was met, as the Southern Nevada Game Night will be a long-lasting memory for students and staff, to remember and reflect on.
Thank you to our contributors, especially Kaya, Logan, and Mr. Martinez, for showing support to the publication! Much appreciated!
