By: Nathaniel (Nate) M. Hello LANV! There’s been a lot of holiday related events recently, and one of the most hilarious and enjoyable events was the Costume Contest and Mafia Game Night on October 7th! There were a lot of laughs and moments to remember, as well as a few cool costumes. So, without further ado, let's talk about how the night went! The night of October 7th… A night of TERROR… And Costumes! Around the Halloween Season LANV hosts a Costume Contest that students, and even some mentors, participate in, with some clever and unique outfits, as well as a lot of puns from Mr. Newman (MS/HS Mentor)! Quite a few students and a lot of mentors were there at the event as well; Of course Mr. and Mrs. Newman (High School ELA Mentor) were there, as well as Ms. McKnight (HS Art Mentor), Mr. Underwood (HS Math Mentor), and the Student Ambassadors (Jackson , Mary , Olivia , Logan , Tierra , Danika , Sebastian , Delaney, Shaley, Treyson, Amberly, Audrey, Judah, Colin, Eden). ![]() During the event, there were a lot of interesting and unique costumes! Students and mentors participated in the costume contest. Mr. Newman was “Count” Dracula, Mrs. Newman was Maleficent, and there were a variety of other costumes ranging from The Joker to “The Ghost of Tierra” to Peggy Carter and even The Statue of Liberty! However, the winner of the Costume Contest was the Pelican Costume! It was both unique, and had an interesting presentation. Ms. McKnight said in an interview: “She just came on mic and shouted out ‘I’M A PELICAN Everyone thought that the Pelican should win after that. Also, no one had ever seen that costume before…” Everyone agreed that the costume was an absolute winner! Another activity that happened was the Mafia Game! Mafia is a game where there are several roles, but the main ones are the detectives, the villagers, and the Mafia. The narrator comes up with a story, and both groups play along with the scenario. A Mafia member eliminates a player according to the circumstance, but no one knows who the mafia is. It’s up to the villagers, and more importantly, the detectives to find out who the mafia member is, and eliminate them! One of the things that make this game fun is that every member has to present their case to the villagers and prove they’re not a mafia member. Several rounds were played, and both sides got a chance to win! The Halloween night was really fun… and Spooky. There were a lot of halloween puns (and math puns, Mr. Newman kept “Counting”). For example, what do you get when you divide a pumpkin’s circumference by its diameter? Pumpkin Pi!
We hope to see more students there next time. Remember, LANV Rocks! Keep up the Spooky Vibes Y’all! N.M. OUT
