By: Christopher Have you ever wondered how to dance at a formal party? Well, I have asked several students how they think they should dance at a formal party as well as how they would dress. If you have ever considered dancing at a formal party I think this article is just for you, as I believe that you would enjoy learning how other students like to dance. To start, when going to a formal dance the most appropriate thing to wear is a dress or a tuxedo just to make yourself look even better. Then you would need to expect that everyone will look nice and dance properly. When you get to the event you should assume that it's gonna be fancy like a school dance fancy or more. And finally, you will need to dance formally; not too much or too little movement, you will need to stay calm and, if you are dancing with a partner, you should pace your steps and dance smoothly with them. Many of you have probably attended a formal dance in the past, however, it doesn’t make it any less scary to think about because of all of the precautions you have to take before you go to the dance floor and bust a move, but don't worry, I’ll teach you all about it. I was interviewing a few people from our school to get their perspective about this topic, Samara (10th grade) said that “at a formal dance she would wear a short dress and when it comes down to dancing she would normally slow dance depending on the music.” She also said that “when it comes down to dancing with other people it depends on the person and music but if its slow music, then I would do formal dancing. But if it's party music, I would, of course, dance with energy.” I believe that being able to dance with a person at a ball or dance or even at just a normal formal party might be a little scary, especially if you have no clue what you are doing, but I suspect that the best way to go when dancing with someone is to be calm and collected. If not, you will most likely step on their shoe or even worse. But in the end, I believe that the most appropriate way of dancing at a ball is slow and steady and to always make sure you pace yourself. When interviewing Samara (10th grade), I asked her what would be considered a formal dance she said “that a gala would be one of the most formal things I can think of.” For beginners, the best way to formally dance is to slow dance. It's pretty simple, but I will explain in more depth. When slow dancing you are to move your feet side to side, but if you're with a partner you would grab on to their waist and hold them, and then you would go side to side but be careful not to step on their feet (that's the most important part of slow dancing). I believe that you should always dance however you want as long as you have fun, but there is always a right way to do it and a time and place to do it as well. I believe that it would be so fun to dance with a group rather than with one person when it's formal because then you would have a lot more fun when you dance.
